Amare As Selfish As You Get

Ok, we get it; your team has lost the first two games of the playoffs by a combined 43 points. You are not getting as many shots as you would like to get. The offense isn’t being run through you. Does that give you the right to potentially take yourself out of the rest of the series with an injury to the hand that was caused by your selfishness and stupidity?

It’s hard to argue the point that Amare was both stupid and selfish as he punched his hand through the glass that surrounded a fire extinguisher after last nights 10 point loss to the Heat in Miami. He is a major part of the New York Knicks whether he thinks so or not and whether the offense is being run enough through him for his liking. The Knicks need him in order to have a shot at a major upset and somehow taking this series from the Miami Heat.

The Heat are obviously heavy favorites in this series and in these playoffs. With the likes of Wade, Bosh and an obviously determined man beast in Lebron James it seems as though this team is destined for a championship this season. Amare Stoudemire just made it even easier for them to steamroll the east and make it to the Finals where it would likely be a bit tougher for them. It seems as though all of the stars are aligning with Dwight Howard and Derrick Rose falling first and now Amare Stoudemire. The one difference is that this time it could have been prevented.

The series now shifts back to New York where stars from the other team always flourish. Wade and Lebron have been known to do damage in the Garden, just like the superstars of the past have done. This doesn’t get any easier just because the Knicks are going home. If anything there is even more pressure on them – as the saying goes a series doesn’t really get started until a team wins on the road. The Heat should have no problem doing so on Thursday night as the Knicks get set to make history with their 13th consecutive playoff loss.

Was Amare more efficient than Carmelo last night? Yes. Should Amare get the ball more often? Perhaps. Should the offense be run through Amare? No. This is Melo’s team, no matter how upset that make everyone including Amare – which is why he apparently tried to pick a fight with a piece of glass and a fire extinguisher. Selfish. Stupid. Irrational. If Amare does somehow play on Thursday night he should not be surprised by the chorus of boos that will greet him at the Garden. New York fans are tough to deal with when you are not playing well, but even harder to deal with when you are a stupid athlete.

Amare didn’t realize the ramifications of what he was about to do when he balled up his fist, but he just effectively ended this series (as if it wasn’t already over) and gave everyone outside of NY (except for those rooting against the empire that is the Heat) something to laugh about.

Now on to more important things! Do you think we will see a fire extinguisher in the boat when TNT fires it up for the Knicks??

Do you think Amare is right to be frustrated or does he just need to adjust to his role as second fiddle on this team as Wade has in Miami? Let us know! Comment away!
