The Adjustment Bureau - 4 Stars - REVIEW
Do we control our destiny, or do unseen forces manipulate us? A man glimpses the future Fate has planned for him and realizes he wants something else. To get it, he must pursue across, under and through the streets of modern-day New York the only woman he's ever loved. On the brink of winning a seat in the U.S. Senate, ambitious politician David Norris (Damon) meets beautiful contemporary ballet dancer Elise Sellas (Emily Blunt) - a woman like none he's ever known. But just as he realizes he's falling for her, mysterious men conspire to keep the two apart. David learns he is up against the agents of Fate itself - the men of The Adjustment Bureau - who will do everything in their considerable power to prevent David and Elise from being together. In the face of overwhelming odds, he must either let her go and accept a predetermined path...or risk everything to defy Fate and be with her. Written by Universal Pictures
Scott's Take- This is one of my favorite films this year. Don't hesitate to purchase The Adjustment Bureau. It's that good.
The Unknown - 3 Stars
Dr. Martin Harris, an American Bio-technologist, arrives in Berlin with his ravishing wife-Elizabeth, to attend a biotechnology submit. On reaching the hotel, he finds some part of the luggage missing. He takes a cab back to the airport in order to locate the missing luggage, but before he could inform his wife the cab meets an accident and falls off a bridge into the river. The female driver of the cab, after rescuing him, flees from the scene. Dr. Harris is taken to a medical facility where he finally regains his conscious after spending four days in comma. He seems to have suffered from a bout temporary amnesia, but soon remembers of his wife and the purpose of the visit to Berlin. He is suddenly overcome by a desperate urge to unite with his wife and he leaves the hospital immediately. On arriving at the hotel, he confronts the security to arrange for a meeting with his wife. To his dismay...( IMDB )
Scott's Take- I don't know why, but I really enjoyed Unknown. It's a semi-ripoff of Polanski's Frantic and it is completely implausible, but anytime Liam Neeson is on screen, he just owns this film. Check your mind at the door and have a good time.
The Eagle - Unreviewed
In 140 AD, twenty years after the unexplained disappearance of the entire Ninth Legion in the mountains of Scotland, young centurion Marcus Aquila (Tatum) arrives from Rome to solve the mystery and restore the reputation of his father, the commander of the Ninth. Accompanied only by his British slave Esca (Bell), Marcus sets out across Hadrian's Wall into the uncharted highlands of Caledonia - to confront its savage tribes, make peace with his father's memory, and retrieve the lost legion's golden emblem, the Eagle of the Ninth. Written by Focus Features
Scott's Take- I haven't seen The Eagle yet, but I have to admit I'm a sucker for sword and sandal films. I'm not big on Channing Tatum. I feel he can be a screen presence, but is in desperate need of acting lessons. I'm going to check it out this week. If you beat me to the punch, or have already seen The Eagle, give me a heads up.
Cedar Rapids - Unreviewed
To call insurance agent Tim Lippe (Ed Helms), "naïve" is a gross understatement. He's never left his small hometown. He's never stayed at a hotel. And he's never experienced anything like Cedar Rapids, Iowa. Sent to represent his company at the annual insurance convention, Tim is soon distracted by three convention veterans (John C. Reilly, Anne Heche and Isiah Whitlock Jr.) who will show him the ropes and push his boundaries. For a guy who plays everything by the book, this convention will be anything but conventional -- (C) Fox Searchlight
Scott's Take- I've been dying to see Cedar Rapds for months. This is going to do great DVD business due to Helms recent Hangover 2 success. Since I've already seen The Adjustment Bureau twice, this is my must see Blu-Ray of the week.
Diary of a Wimpy Kid 2: Roderick Rules - Unreviewed
In this sequel to 2010's surprise hit, Greg Heffley, the kid who made "wimpy" cool is back in an all-new family comedy based on the best-selling follow-up novel by Jeff Kinney. (Kinney's Wimpy Kid series has thus far sold 42 million books.) As he begins seventh grade, Greg and his older brother - and chief tormentor - Rodrick must deal with their parents' misguided attempts to have them bond. -- (C) Fox
Scott's Take- Yawn.
That's all for this week. A lot of movies to choose from. My top 3 this week? 1) The Adjustment Bureau 2) The Adjustment Bureau 3) The Adjustment Bureau. After that, go for Cedar Rapids. Next week we have Sucker Punch, another Nic Cage bomb in Season of the Witch, Adrian Gonzalez stars in Beastly ( that was a joke for Red Sox Nation) and The Warrior's Way. It's not looking good for next week.
